Easily avoidable drains on the iPhone battery life

Avoide drains on the iPhone battery lifeThe iPhone, especially the new one with the iOS 4.3, has opened new possibilities in the arena of not only communication but also fun and entertainment. However, just as the proverbial characters of entertainment, who being supreme beings or 'star of the show' have some, even though minute, vices, this star of the cellphone industry too is not devoid of them. The iPhone may be packed with apps that can be great productivity enhancers or entertainers, but the fun of using them doesn't last long due to the drain they have on the iPhone battery life. Hope, and hopefully fun, is not all lost though, as the iphone battery life video explain how one can enhance and elongate the fun by effectively saving on the iPhone battery life.

If one leaves his/her iPhone on the default/factory settings where almost all radios of the iPhone are on, the drain on the battery would be considerable and the user may notice the battery run out more frequently. The best way to conserve the iPhone battery life is to take some steps to ensure that unnecessary tasks do not play hard on the battery.  Here are a few quick steps that can help kill the battery killers.

Turn off the location services and other radios

If the user does not use the the location services more frequently, then turning them off can be great relief to the battery and can hence help extend the battery life on iPhone. The user simply needs to access the 'Settings' then 'General', 'Location Services' and then turn off the Compass and Map. Also, turning off the 3G and Wi-Fi on the iPhone can help preserve battery life. This should especially be done in areas where the reception is poor, as, in such conditions, these radios draw more power from the phone's battery. Putting the iPhone in Airplane mode can be the best choice in these scenarios where it also turns off the Wi-Fi. The same goes for bluetooth.

Kill the multi-taskin/background apps

Although multi-tasking is relatively new to iPhone and is available only with the latest version, it can be a real drain on the battery, especially when running poorly constructed third-party apps. Apps that use Internet in the background can be real battery hogs and hence killing them can be the best alternative (and first task) in delicate battery situations. This can be done by tapping the Home key twice and then holding the finger on the bottom row for a second. The apps can be killed by tapping the small 'x' buttons situated at their top left corner.

Manually Fetch Data

If the user checks her/his emails and messages less frequently, then setting these options to manual, rather than the phone checking it periodically can also save a great deal of iPhone battery life. This can be done by accessing the 'Settings' then 'Mails, Contacts, Calenders' then 'Fetch New Data' and choosing the 'Manual' option. With this setting, the phone checks for emails and data only when the user access the mail box.

Setting the iPhone to a lower brightness

The LCD display of the iPhone (or any other new phone) is illuminated by a light source (LEDs mostly) which also consumes a lot of battery if the luminosity is set to high. Lowering the brightness lessens the luminosity and hence drains the battery less. This can be done by going to 'Settings' and choosing 'Brightness'. The brightness can be set by moving the slider to suit the preferable need. Selecting 'Auto' makes sure that there is always sufficient light to make the screen readable.

These small changes can make considerable contributions to save a lot of the iPhone's battery life and can hence help prolong the ultimate iPhone experience.
